Tuesday is for Track (This week on the Mills)

Not sure what to make of today's workout. I broke two treadmills at BSC not sure but that cannot be a good sign. The first one went dead after 2 mile warmup. Was 3 minutes into a 5 minute run at 8.5 mph and poof the lights went out on the damn thing. So I jump on the one next to it and I start todoanothe 5 minute and get finished with that ant some error message came up.

Now I was tempted to trash the whole workout but realized to suck it up and try a different model. And as they say 3rd time was a charm.

Here is the workout as it was sent by the Professor:

1. 2.5 mile warm-up
2. 5 min steady then 3 min jog
3. 4x2 min at 5k pace then 1 min jog
4. 3 min jog
5. 6x1 min at faster pace then 30 sec jog
6. 3 min jog
7. 6x30 sec at even faster pace then 1 min jog
8. 2.5 mile cool down

Well needless to say with the 2 broken treadmills this did not go as I had planned to get to 10mph by the end, but had to settle for just over 9 I was sucking wind. What little those 2 tiny fans could. Also my hamsting was on the verge would almost cramp so I had to back off or risk not being able to run next week when we are back at Andover High.

The total milage was just over 10 in 88 minutes the cool down was real slow as was very tight and just wanted to get loose.

Saturday - 8 miles on bike path in 70 min.
Friday - rest.

Week 1 Recap

Tuesday -10 miles @ Andover High School
Wednesday - rest
Thursday - 6 miles loop local road
Friday - 12 miles loop local road
Saturday - rest
Sunday - 20 miles Cambridge to Bedford and back mostlly on Bike path
Monday - rest

Wow, 48miles that is most since last week of September when I did 52.
That was the most ever.

Had Company Christmas Party tonight so there was no thought of getting a run in today.
But was pleasantly surprised how well I feel today. No major pain.

Also I got my first comment.

Thanks SFRunner for the kind words I cannot hold a candle to you however.

I maybe a runner as you said in the comments but that is for the past year in my quest to run a marathon. Not the 40+years you have done.

I did apply for a waiver earlier today to run the Boston Marathon.

Just wanted to at least give me some hope of running Boston as of now I have no ideas of what races to do in 2009.

I ran an organized race about once a month in 2008.

I did the 7 events of the USATF/NE Grand Prix and earned my Ironrunner jacket.

Also ran 3 other races the last being Mill Cities Relay which I ran the 2nd leg of the relay.

Out Co-Ed Senior team finished 4th out of about 20 teams our running club finished 3rd out of all clubs invited.

You can read about it here.
and from the winning team here.

This is what I looked like after long run.

Sunday Long Run

This morning decided to run in Arlington, MA. I read in the Boston Globe that it is plowed from Alewife T station in Cambridge to Bedford. So I parked at the Lexington -Arlington line and went south to the station. It was a nice run into a strong wind and light flurries. I did the 5 miles in about 45 minutes.
I went into the station to use a 5 star facility.(I'll explain that in a later post.)
I pick up a power bar and energy drink.
I headed back north at 10am towards Lexington doing a couple of 8 min/mile. Was horrified when I got to the town of Lexington and it was not plowed and had to resort to plan B(run on Mass. Ave.). I went to a store picked up a drink at mile 3(13 miles into run). It was now after 11am I got to the turn around picture above at 11:30am.
I snapped a few pictures lost a glove found glove after 5 minute search.
I headed south back towards Arlington. Got back at noon. So 20 miles in 3 hours not bad considering I was going back into the wind was getting hit by cars 3 mirrors.

A Snow Run

Was not sure how much I could run tooday because of impending snow storm. But was pleasantly surprised when my boss said we had to leave at 2pm.

He did not get many arguments from the skeleton crew that was there. I got home and there there was less than an inch of snow. Today I had a bagel b4 I left work, so just needed to change and lace em up.

Felt much better today for I ran 5.5 miles in 45minutes. Was not sure how far I would go so I had a gatorade with me. But felling so good I stopped at the store and brought another. I continued on and the snow was starting to pile up. I headed down thru Wilmington then into Burlington by now had to get off the sidewalks and into the streets at least by now there was little traffic. Headed back to Billerica did about 12 miles in just under 2 hours.

That last few miles was into a noreaster. There was almost 6"of snow when I got home. Not sure when I will do that again. But was glad with the effort.

Birthday Girl and Her Big Baby Brother

Happy Birthday Amanda Lee Kleschinsky

Got home from work at 7pm. Had an apple, changed and off I went.

Ran, if you can call it that, 6+ miles in about an hour(ouch).

I did not run in early am as have been battling a cold and got little sleep last few nights.

It was my worst run all year. Only about half the sidewalks were shoveled and running in the road was terrirified felt like the cars were aiming for me.

Even walked some. I slowed to a crawl near my sons house and he was out. Was great to see him. Really only bright spot on otherwise dreary run.

After I saw him I looked at my watch and saw it was December 18, Realized it was my beautiful daughters birthday. Happy 20th Birthday Amanda Lee Kleschinsky.

And after that it was a better day even though she is away at College still wanted to give her a shout as they say. Love You both.

Snow Day

A bit sore after running on that indoor track.

Was not planning on running today.

But with 4" of the white stuff doubleing commute this morning and having meeting go till 9pm well that made the choice easy.

Will get a run in the am.

Marathon Man

Well if anybody reads this I will be shocked.

I ran indoors last night still on that high from run.

Did 2.5 miles warm up.

Now this track I run at is 11 laps to the mile so needless to say it is mostly like running in circles but it is in out of the elements.

1.4x4 laps @38 sec/lap rest 30sec
2.3laps jog
3.8x2.5 laps @35first lap,19 sec .5lap, 35 lastlap. 90 sec walk 1 lap after each.
4.5.5 laps @ 36/lap 60 sec rest.
5.5.5 laps @35/lap 60 sec rest
6.2.5 mile cool down.

total about 10 miles.

Then half hour core.
